AU library: a place for everyone

AU Library Building Library at most prestigious educational institute Andhra University also known as Dr. VS Krishna Library. It was established in 1927 and renamed as a mark of respect of its former Vice Chancellor Krishna in 1968.

It has good amount of printed material in three storied building and general magazines at the reading hall. Varsity authorities had concentrated more on students by providing online services through internet connectivity.

Objectives
To help the students and teachers to reach their full potential by providing multi faced, supportive learning and teaching environment.
To enhance Andhra University status as a major research university and center for higher education.
To position the University as the leading provider of outreach services in collaboration with other institutes of higher learning and research to users on and off the campus.
To provide global access to information published worldwide in many disciplines in support of qualitative research and education at the University level.

Borrowing privileges
Library maintains huge collection of books on various subjects in addition to current and back volumes of research journals. As per the rules of the Library part of the collection is allowed for issue on loan to borrowers. Remaining collections are meant only for reference with in the library premises.

Issue Information
Items for Issue : The registered borrowers are allowed to borrow all the books shelved in different loan sections such as Arts, Science & Technology and languages, on loan.

Items for only Reference : All those items shelved in Textbook section, Quick reference and Reference sections, and Special collections are meant for reference in Library only.

Similarly, both loose issues of current periodicals and back volumes of periodicals are also not allowed for beyond the room. Xerox facility is available within the library and students can had the important papers duplicate it.

Borrowing Facilities
The composition of user community of Dr. V.S.Krishna Library consists of students, teachers, research scholars, non-teaching staff and Deposit borrowers.

By virtue of appointment in the University as a Teacher or Non teaching staff or a student or a scholar neither does nor automatically entitles to use the Library facilities. To borrow the library material, one must register himself / herself with the library by following necessary formalities.

Borrowing privileges will vary depending on the status of the users. Following are the details regarding the borrowing facility given to different types of library Users.

Computer lab in Library Insufficient PCs at Net Centers
Library has more than 50 systems (personal computers) with outdated configuration at the Internet centre. Students can utilize them for three days

a week and restricted to one hour, whereas research scholars has no time bound. Proposed plans were good and were failed to implement them in action. Out of 50 pcs only 10 were in use, and allowed to share between students and scholars as well. Scholars are not allowed at their parental departments.

There were about 3000 scholars and 6000 students have to share these 10 systems. AU administration authorities had failed to show solution to this problem. It is connected to Colleges of Arts, Commerce Science Technology, Law and Pharmacy in the campus.

Lack of Funds
This Library officials could not provide latest printed publications, latest magazines to the readers due to lack of sufficient funds.

Library Staff
The library is managed by Librarian, one deputy librarian, three Assistant Librarians, 38 Library and Technical Assists. And more than 100 Non professional staff including the administrative staff. They Include office superintendent, Senior Assistant, Junior Assistant, typists, record Assistants and Attenders.

News available for everyone Reading & Seating facility
It provides sufficient reading and seating facility along with stack area in different sections. In addition to this an exclusive reading room facility was created in a separate two storied building. Users are allowed to bring their personal books into this reading room while they were not allowed in the main library. At a time the library can provide seating and reading facility for about 400 users.

Furniture & Equipment :
The Library is equipped with mostly wooden chairs and table for seating and reading purposes, for shelving purpose mostly steel bookshelves with specified standards are used.
Binding section contains all necessary equipment for binding books, journals and for preparing library tickets and borrower books.
For the purpose of automation, Networking and Internet browsing, the library is maintaining computer systems and servers.

Other Physical facilities :
The library building is located in a specious area. Adequate parking facility is available for parking all types of vehicles.
Round the clock protected drinking water facility is provided with in the library for the sake of users and library staff.
Proper care is taken to provide good ventilation and lighting with in the library to create congenial environment for browsing and reading the library materials in different sections of the library.

Location:
Dr. VS Krishna Library is located at the heart of the city near Siripuram Junction. Seats were provided for the convenience to the students and visitors as well. It is just opposite to the bus point and number of buses are passing through this route.
