Vizag: Temples in city celebrated Janmastami- to mark the birth of Lord Sri Krishna with lots of joy and fun. Celebrations held for about two days since, Rohini nakshatra fells on monday and Tuesday.
Temples of Lord Krishna viz ISKCON, Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mutt performed rituals, bhajans, akahnd namasmaran (continuous chanting of Lord Krishna name) right from morning. Special attractions of the fest are fancy dresses, chanting of Gita slokas, Vishnusahasranam, discourses on the lifestyle of Lord Krishna etc.
Competitions
Most of the spiritual centres were conducted fancy dress competitions, sweet preparations, debate, elecution, paintings etc. Children of various school have participated in different categories. Competitions were held in sub junior, junior, senior categories. Devotees of Lord Krishna solemnise the festival with lot of joy and enthusiasm. All efforts are made to give the festival an extremely decorative look.
Celebrated with Splendour
Krishnashtami celebrated with lot of pomp and show. Celebrations continued till midnight at the ISKCON. Lord's idol is bathed with Panchamrit and then the cradle is rocked. Devotees observes fast all day long and break it after the birth of Bhagwan Krishna at midnight. Hymns are sung by devotees accompanied by dancing in praise of their favourite Lord.
Celebrations for Two Days
Krishnashtami celebrated for two days and reach its peak at midnight on day one. It is believed that this is the time when Lord Krishna is said to have been born. The blessed event marking Bhagwan Krishnaís birth is celebrated with zeal in different states of India. Mathura, the birthplace of Lord is particulary famous for its grand celebrations. Janmashtami is also celebrated with verve in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
Breaking of Ghata (Utti)
Breaking of Ghata (Utti) celebrated during this festival, which is familiar in this regard. Every village and temple observes this celebrations at high and devotees in large number participated in chasing the pots located at certain height and seen at most of the streets in city.
