Vizag: Competitive ability and productive education are more important to the Indian youngsters opined Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Justice K G Bala Krishnan.

Inaugurating a training session of youth on Human Rights here in city on Friday, he said that India was an agricultural based one, and more population was living. Urbanisation resuting braindrain, and youngsters are migrating to metros and other cities seeking good employment.

Government should provide Education, Health and Food, these are the rights, he added. NHRC had identified 28 districts in the country as "backward" basing on the availability of the basic amenities. One third of the country's population comprised youth below 35 years, he mentioned.

The NHRC started its functioning in 1993 and had received about 10 lakh complaints till this year. This year alone the commission had received 78,000 complaints of human rights violation. The teams of HRC had visited several differently abled, mental health centres, HIV centres and inquired about the violations and directed the authorities to fulfill the minimal needs.

He stated that there was surplus foodgrains in the country, distribution had been failed due to the middlemen system. P CSharma, NHRC member, C S Sharma, Nehru Yuvaka Kendra director, District Collector Shyamala Rao, Police Commissioner Poornachandra Rao and former Mayor D V Subba Rao were present.
