Vizag: Jute - a healthy product to be used in all ways to prevent environment pollution. Products made up of jute be a good substitute to polyethelene bags and other cariers. To create awareness among Vizagites an exhibition was launched by National Jute Board and held for a week.
During this session, a bunch of products like bags, travel kits, school bags, chairs, wall hangings, door mats, blankets, pillows, table lamps, toys etc. were displayed. V.N. Vishnu, Commissioner - Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) congratulated the organisers for providing an awareness among the public on it. Speaking on the occasion, he said, that everybody is looking for an alternate to polyethene carriers.
These products are cheaper and easily available to most of the commonman. GVMC is also looking for alternative to polythene before it is prohibited, he said. Bheemunipatnam Municipality is successfully continuing polytheneless live now-a-days. Number of handicraft and self helf groups and industries have explained their products at the expo.
Jute handicrafts have found a lot patronage in the international as well as the domestic market. Jute is a widely used medium, out of which beautiful handcrafted products are produced. In south India, durries are woven in the bright colours that one usually associates with fabrics from the part of the country.
Among the most picturesque are the durries of Navalgund, a small place in the Dharwar district of Karnataka. The Bhawani durries of Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu are at least a couple of centuries old. Duries from Madhya Pradesh are known for their sturdy character and delightful colours. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, all make distinctive types of durries in wool or cotton or both.
